Renowned Ugandan musician Dr. Jose Chameleone has announced plans to establish a School of Creative Music and Arts in Western Equatoria State, South Sudan. The announcement was made during the country’s Independence Day celebrations in Yambio, where Chameleone joined government officials and local residents for the occasion.

The planned institution will focus on developing young musical talent in South Sudan, offering structured training in performance, production, and other creative disciplines. The project reflects Chameleone’s long-standing connection to the country and his desire to give back to the community that supported his early career.

Reflecting on his personal ties to South Sudan, Chameleone emphasized that this initiative goes beyond a typical artist appearance.

“I don’t want to come to South Sudan just to sing and go. South Sudan built me. My first time in South Sudan was in 2002. The people welcomed me. Now I want to love the people back,” he said.

The Western Equatoria State government has pledged land for the school, signaling official support for the project. Local leaders have praised the initiative as a meaningful step toward strengthening the country’s cultural and creative industries.

Details on the construction and opening timeline have not yet been disclosed, but groundwork for the project is expected to begin soon.
